The Remote Winery In Wyoming That’s Picture Perfect For A Day Trip

There are many other states that are known for their vineyards, so you may be surprised to learn that there are a few serious grape-growers here in the Cowboy State.

There's one specific vineyard and winery in east Wyoming that produces award-winning wines. It's a little remote but, truthfully, almost everywhere in the state is off the beaten path. The location is beautiful and the wine is delicious, a combination that makes for a perfect excursion when you feel like making a day trip.

Table Mountain Vineyards is the home of Wyo Wine, one of Wyoming's premier winemakers.

Though the address is 5933 Road 48, Huntley, Wyoming, the winery is actually located about 5 miles southeast of the town.

The vineyard that grows the delicious grapes that make Wyo Wine is relatively new. It started as part of the Zimmerer family farm where corn, sugar beets, alfalfa, and other typical Wyoming crops were grown.

Planting a small vineyard in 2001 was part of Patrick Zimmerer's senior thesis research project in which he proposed that certain hardy hybrid grapes would thrive in the harsh Wyoming climate.

After the first 300 vines survived the winter, Table Mountain Vineyards was born and expanded to over 10 acres with around 10,000 vines.

Some of the grape varieties growing at the vineyard include darker grapes like Frontenac and Valiant varieties...

...as well as "white" varieties like Elvira grapes.

Winemaking was the natural next step after perfecting the art of growing grapes in Wyoming.

Considering several of the wines produced at Table Mountain Vineyards have won awards, it's safe to say that the Zimmerer's have successfully conquered that challenge.

They've become masters at fermenting many local resources to create delightful wine.

In addition to wine made from grapes, Table Mountain Vineyards also produces honey wine and a seleciton of fruit wines made from cherries and other fruits grown in Wyoming.

The Zimmerers welcome visitors. The winery offers tours of the vineyard and wine tastings, and they serve awesome burgers and other tasty food.

They also host wine and painting parties.

In its idyllic location, the vineyard is even a picture-perfect place for a special event.
