Every Fall, This Small Town In Wyoming Holds The Most Authentic Greek Festival In America
Cheyenne, Wyoming hosts an annual Greek Festival every September featuring traditional Greek food, dance, and music.
Fall is traditionally the time for harvest festivals, apple picking, and Oktoberfests, however, the town of Cheyenne puts on such an amazing festival to celebrate Greek food, dance, and culture we just couldn't keep it to ourselves! Cheyenne, Wyoming has a sizeable Greek population and you can experience the very best of their festive traditions at the Cheyenne Greek Festival held every September.
This beautiful church is the home of Greek culture in Cheyenne and is proud to hold the Cheyenne Greek Festival every year.
Dancers in traditional garb perform festive dances to keep Greek culture and music going through the years.
After the performances, everyone gets up to dance with music being played by their local band Rock on Wheels.
All manner of Greek food is served such as gyros, deep-fried and spiced calamari, Greek salad, loukaniko (Greek sausages), and much more.
The souvlakia is to die for! Pork and chicken are marinated in lemon juice, oregano, and other spices, grilled on skewers, and served on a roll. It's so delicious, your tastebuds will say "Opa!"
Pastitsio is a sort of Greek lasagna, with macaroni, ground beef, and mizithra cheese layered and baked with Bechamel sauce. One serving may not be enough.
Local, Greek-owned coffee shop Yaiya's is on-site with several varieties of sweet, mouthwatering baklava, sweet bread, and other pastries.
It's so good you'll want to buy some to take home with you. I bet it won't last long!
Wyoming's picturesque landscape is perfect for road trips and this state is home to one of the most wondrous rock formations on earth, Devil's Tower, which was featured in the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
