Wisconsin is no stranger to unique and family-friendly parks. From beautiful state parks to picture-perfect city parks, there are all types of destinations to explore. But one that is perfect for a family day trip outdoors is a county park located in the town of Rockbridge — Pier County Park. Also known as Pier Natural Bridge Park, this destination has so much to do and see for the entire family. With an incredible rock formation, historical markers, picnic areas, and even campsites, Pier County Park in Wisconsin is one you’ll love to visit.

You will find Pier County Park located right along Highway 80 at Rockbridge. This 10-acre county park has something for everyone to explore and enjoy.

One of the main features of this Wisconsin County Park is the nearly 0.5-mile-long “finger.” This is a unique and unusual geological feature of layered sandstone that stands nearly 60 feet. At the top, you’ll find pine trees and shrubs, which make this rock formation even more remarkable.

Plus, if you want to see this formation from a totally unique perspective, walk through it using the man-made tunnel. You will even find stairs that take you to the top of the formation if you want a different point of view.

As you explore the park, you’ll find many basic amenities ranging from picnic tables and playgrounds to shelters and grassy areas. There is plenty of space to spread out and enjoy some time with your family.

As you walk around, you’ll come across two historical markers. One of these markers teaches you about the large rock formation in the park. The other tells you all about the significance of the Blackhawk Wars fought in the area.

While Pier County Park is certainly a lovely destination for a family day trip outdoors, you can always stay a little longer by setting up camp in one of the campsites at the park. These sites are limited and are based on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Pier County Park in Rockbridge is a place for exploring, learning, and history. It’s the perfect place to spend time with those you love.
