A scenic hidden gem in the Mountain State is just the cure for some much needed rest and relaxation!

1. The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge - Williamstown

This unique reserve protects wildlife habitat along a 362-mile, island-dotted stretch of the Ohio River. Start at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitors Center in Williamstown to learn more about this amazing area.

2. Rehoboth Church - Union

As the oldest church west of the Allegheny Mountains, the Rehoboth Methodist Church in Union is well worth a visit. It was dedicated in 1786.

3. Cook’s Old Mill - Greenville

Not too far from Rehoboth Church, Cook's Old Mill in Greenville, West Virginia is another rural stop that not too many people from outside the area know about. It's both historic and peaceful, making it an ideal spot for a picnic lunch or a relaxing stroll!

4. Fidler’s Mill - Rock Cave

Speaking of mills... don't miss Fidler's Mill in Rock Cave (near Buckhannon) in Upshur County. It's another little-known historic beauty!

5. "Light-Horse Harry" Lee Cabin - Mathias

Located in West Virginia's Lost River State Park, this cabin was the Lee family summer retreat for many years ("Light-Horse Harry" was Robert E. Lee's father).
