This West Virginia Town Is One Of The Most Peaceful Places To Live In The Country

Green Bank and Oak Hill in West Virginia are highlighted as some of the most peaceful and safe places to live in the United States.

A recent article on the MoneyInc website named a small town in West Virginia the number one most peaceful place to live in the entire nation. Can you guess which town that is? Of course you can! We've known the answer for years, and you probably have, too: Green Bank. As the home of the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope and located in the heart of the United States National Radio Quiet Zone, it's no wonder that it's the quietest, most peaceful place in, well, pretty much the entire world! But here's a newsflash: Green Bank isn't the only peaceful or safe place to live we've got up our sleeve here in Almost Heaven, West Virginia, folks. Not by a long shot.

Another town in West Virginia that's arguably almost as peaceful and as safe a place to live as Green Bank is Oak Hill, which is located in Fayette County.

In fact, just recently, Oak Hill was named one of the top 100 safest cities in America by CCTV Camera World.

In all of 2020, for instance, the quiet little community of Oak Hill reported only about 11 crimes in the entire city (Oak Hill has a population of just over 8,000 residents, by the way).

Plus, Oak Hill is absolutely gorgeous, it's easy to get to, it's a place where cell phones and wireless internet generally work, and it's located right near an entrance to the New River Gorge National Park, all claims to fame that Green Bank, as wonderful a place as it is, can't boast.

In Oak Hill, you can rock climb, whitewater raft, shop, eat, bike, hike, hunt, attend festivals, and more.

There are scenic drives to be taken, historic buildings to photograph, and beautiful views to enjoy.

Of course, just because Oak Hill in West Virginia is such a safe, peaceful place to live doesn't mean its never seen any excitement: in 1953, for example, Hank Williams was discovered dead in the back seat of his car in this tiny West Virginia town. In fact, you can actually eat a hot dog in that very same parking lot when you visit Oak Hill if you wish. Learn more about Oak Hill on the city's Facebook page.
