Middleway, West Virginia seems like a peaceful little town. If you walk around the historic district, however, you'll notice signs with odd symbols. These are the remnants of a creepy ghost story involving this tiny town.

Middleway is a quiet little town between Shepherdstown and Charles Town.

If you visit the town, you'll notice that there are many of these strange signs.

The story goes back to a mysterious traveler who fell ill while staying in the town in the 1790s.

The legend says that he asked for a priest to administer last rites, but it was not a Catholic area, and his host, Adam Livingston, refused to let a priest into his home.

After the traveler passed away, people in Middleway started seeing strange things, like heads and legs falling off of chickens.

Dishes were suddenly smashed to the floor.

The air was often filled with clipping sounds, and people would wake up to find crescent shapes had been cut into their clothing in the night.

Convinced by these strange occurrences, Adam Livingston converted to Catholicism and called for a priest to bless his home and help the traveler rest in peace.

The hauntings have now ceased, but you can still see the reminder of these disturbing events in the signs around town.

Middleway is now also known as "Wizard Clip" and the townspeople known as "Clippers."
