Also known as the Sandyville Covered Bridge, the Sarvis Creek Covered Bridge spans an impressive 101 feet. This Truss bridge was constructed in 1890 by R.B. Cunningham and G.W. Staats for the bargain price of $64. Once Route 33 opened, vehicular traffic barely used it, so in 1924, it was dismantled and reconstructed to where it stands today, spanning the left fork of Sandy Creek.

Also known as the Tug Fork Bridge, the historic Staats Mill Covered Bridge in Ripley was originally built over Tug Creek in Jackson County in 1888 at a cost of around $1,800. In 1982, a flood control project forced the move of this 97-foot Truss bridge just 3 miles away to the Cedar Lakes FFA-FHA Conference Center. It was reconstructed at one of the center’s ponds and is a must-see historic attraction in West Virginia.

Constructed by John G. Sprigg in 1903, Walkersville Covered Bridge is a quaint 39-foot-long, 12-foot-wide, queen-post truss located south of Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park. It spans the right fork of the West Fork River and is a lovely spot for a few quick photos.

Built in 1852, the longest covered bridge in West Virginia, at an impressive 286 feet long and 26 feet wide, is a historic relic that survived the Civil War. The opposing armies — the Union and the Confederacy—used both sides of the Philippi Covered Bridge during the Battle of Philippi, and the Union eventually gained control of the bridge. Today, you can drive over this covered bridge in West Virginia and marvel at its historical significance.

Resting on stones quarried from a nearby hill, the 58-foot Fletcher Covered Bridge was constructed in 1891 for just $1,372. It spans the Ten Mile Creek, a tributary of the West Fork River, and still allows cars to drive through.

Nowadays, the 42-foot-long, 15-foot-wide Center Point Covered Bridge is open only to foot traffic. It was built between 1888 and 1890 for approximately $1,000 and spans the Pike Fork of McElroy Creek. In 1981, the bridge was donated to the Doddridge County Historical Society and restored.

Originally built in 1881, about a half mile from its current location, the Simpson Creek Covered Bridge was washed away by a flood in 1899. The 75-foot multiple-kingpost truss was eventually rebuilt in a park and is only open to pedestrians today.

If you're wondering about the second-oldest covered bridge in West Virginia, it's the Barrackville Covered Bridge. Built in 1853 prior to the Civil War, it spans 145 feet, making it also the second-longest covered bridge in the state. Restored in 1999, it's only open to foot traffic.

Dents Run Covered Bridge was constructed in 1889 and spans 40 feet over Dents Run. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1981, this kingpost truss bridge measures 40 feet long and nearly 13 feet wide.
