Gilbert, West Virginia might be not much more than a dot on the map in size, but there is so much to do and see in this corner of Appalachia.
Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Gilbert, West Virginia, is a charming small town that I'm excited to introduce you to! Gilbert offers visitors a unique blend of outdoor adventures, cultural experiences, and historical sites. From exploring the Hatfield & McCoy Moonshine distillery to riding the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Gilbert.
Gilbert, West Virginia, in Mingo County, boasts a population of just 333 (in the 2020 census), but don't underestimate it based on its size! For starters, it's perched on the Guyandotte River, which is a fun and beautiful spot for tubing, kayaking, or river swimming.
One of the must-visit attractions in Gilbert is the Hatfield & McCoy Moonshine distillery. This Hatfield-family-owned distillery offers visitors the chance to learn about the history of moonshine production in the region and sample a variety of handcrafted spirits, including traditional moonshine made from the family's top secret recipe!
If you're looking to explore the great outdoors, Mountaintop Adventures is the perfect destination. This outdoor recreation center offers a variety of activities, including ATV tours. Visitors can take in the stunning views of the mountains and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.
