As we try to navigate our way through this strange year, one thing has become clear: we are officially in the summer of the staycation. Luckily, when you live in Washington, that's never a bad thing. Our peaceful, picturesque islands offer an opportunity to disconnect from everyday life and slow down a little, and everyone could probably use a change of scenery right now. If you're going a bit stir-crazy, these islands are especially alluring.
1. Whidbey Island
Whidbey Island is not only stunning in every season, it has something for everyone. From the historic Fort Casey to charming towns like Langley and plenty of space for social distance-style beach walks, not to mention the always majestic Deception Pass Bridge, the island is a little piece of paradise. It also happens to have some extremely tasty food, which is currently available for takeout or dining in (with limited capacity).
2. Bainbridge Island
Bainbridge Island is a short ferry ride from Seattle, but you'll feel like you're in another world. With more than 1600 acres of parkland on the island, it's a nature lover's paradise -- and the downtown area is full of eclectic shops, boutiques, and tasty eats.
3. San Juan Island
If you're planning a trip to the San Juan Islands this summer, we recommend checking out the main island itself. While some attractions remain close, the San Juans are currently in Phase Three, meaning you can explore, dine, and shop freely.
4. Camano Island

Camano Island is located between Whidbey Island and Stanwood, just a 15 minute drive from I-5. Cama Beach State Park is definitely the top attraction on Camano, but there's certainly more to see. Some of the attractions are still closed, but plenty of local eateries are offering curbside pick up and delivery services.
