This Charming Waterfront Washington Town Is Wildly Underrated
Westport, Washington, is an underrated coastal town known for its large marina, fresh seafood, and scenic beaches.
From our charming lakeside tourist towns like Lake Chelan to the sprawling and beloved Long Beach, we've got plenty of amazing waterfront towns to enjoy here in Washington. And while some will forever be popular vacation destinations, there are also quite a few that stay under the radar.
Westport is a coastal community that remains a fairly popular spot for fishing and beach fun. But while it tends to take a backseat to our other oceanfront towns, it happens to be a wildly underrated tourist destination.
The city of Westport is located in Grays Harbor and is home to about 2,100 people.
The Westport Marina is actually the largest marina on the outer coast of the PNW.
Because of the huge public marina, Westport is a major fishing destination.
You'll see plenty of commercial fishing boats, charters, and private boats in the water.
Crabbing and digging for clams are also popular pastimes here, and you know what that means...
... you'll find fresh seafood everywhere you look.
The Blue Buoy is located at 2323 Westhaven Dr., and they specialize in brunch favorites like crab omelets. They also have a famous homemade clam chowder.
If you'd rather cook, but not catch, your meal, you can head to one of Westport's seafood markets, like Merino's at 301 E Harbor Street.
Merino's is open daily, and they have everything from raw fish (including dolphin safe tuna) to ready-to-eat crab and chowder.
It's a seafood lover's dream come true.
Of course, there's much more to Westport than just delicious food.
The Grays Harbor Lighthouse is a top attraction. It's the tallest lighthouse in Washington and the third tallest on the West Coast, so it's a pretty spectacular sight.
At the Westport Maritime Museum, you can learn all about the local history.
The museum is located in the historic Coast Guard station building that dates back to 1939.
And, of course, it goes without saying that the beach is unreal.
You can walk for miles at Twin Harbors Beach State Park or the many miles of sandy shoreline that border the town.
Although it's sometimes a sleepy little beach town, you'll often find fun events and festivals on the calendar here.
There's something for everyone in Westport, which is why it's an underrated gem.
Have you ever been to Westport? You can always work it into your next coastal road trip.
