The Northwest Railway Museum is Washington's largest and most comprehensive railroad museum. Located in historic Snoqualmie, the museum sees more than 130,000 visitors each year. And in the summertime, guests can opt to Ride the Rails on the weekends, cruising on a scenic train ride between North Bend and Snoqualmie Falls. This is a great way to see some of Washington's most beautiful scenery like never before.
The Snoqualmie Depot was originally built in 1890 by the SLS&E.
The Northwest Railway Museum was founded in 1957. Back then, it was called the Puget Sound Railway Historical Association, taking its current name in 1999. The museum's exhibits are located in the former passenger waiting areas and freight room.
Throughout the year, the Northwest Railway Museum offers themed excursions as well as classic rides.
Guests can come for both Mother's and Father's Day weekends, ride themed dinner trains, and even ride a steam train.
One of the most popular excursions is the annual Day out with Thomas, which takes place on most July weekends.
Thomas is instantly recognizable by children and kids at heart, and it's fun riding with Thomas the Tank Engine.
The Ride the Rails train ride lasts for about two hours, which includes a 30-minute stop at the Railway History Campus.
It also gives riders a one-of-a-kind glimpse of Snoqaulmie Falls.
Ride the Rails is available on Saturdays and Sundays from April through December.
Still, it's most popular during the summertime, and it's easy to see why.
If you're interested in booking a train ride here, simply buy tickets at the North Bend Depot or the Snoqualmie Depot.
Summer trains do fill up fast, so if you're concerned, you can buy your tickets online ahead of time. Special events like Day Out with Thomas require advanced purchase.
