Take This Coastal Drive For One Last Glimpse Of Fall In Virginia

It's hard to believe fall is winding to a close here in Virginia, yet the signs of winter's approach are hard to deny. Fortunately, autumn hasn't quite disappeared yet. And if you're looking for one last fall outing, we've got just the drive in mind. Situated in York County, the Colonial Parkway offers an unforgettable tour of some of Virginia's most historic towns. And this time of year, you can enjoy seeing fall's last hurrah as the last of the foliage clings to the trees.

Here's a glimpse at what's in store:

The 23-mile route known as the Colonial Parkway connects Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown as a Historic Triangle.

Along the way, travelers can admire Virginia's breathtaking coast as the route meanders along the James and York Rivers.

Planning for the parkway began in 1930. The route was created as a literal and symbolic connector of three historic towns.

Drivers today will notice the historic red brick of the tunnels and a speed limit of 35 - 45 MPH to ensure that drivers take time to appreciate the landscape.

While spring is a notoriously famous time to drive the Parkway, you'll find that late fall proves to be simply breathtaking.

Even as the trees have lost most of their leaves, the expansive view of water is simply breathtaking.

As you continue along the drive, be sure to stop briefly at the designated pull-offs to learn about the landscape and its unique history.
