Once people spend time in Vermont, they usually don't want to leave. Why would they? Vermont is not only filled with beautiful scenery, friendly people and fresh food… It’s also one of the safest places to live in the country. We used the same criteria as Safewise and Homesnacks, which includes cities/towns that have populations of more than 5,000 people, and used crimes reported to the FBI to determine the safest place. It just so happens that the town is also filled with places to go, things to do and much more.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at Waterbury - the town that will make everyone want to drop everything and move!
1. Safety first!
Research by Safewise.com revealed that five of the safest cities in Vermont reported no murders, rapes, or robberies, and the state’s safest city/town, Waterbury, reported no incidents of violent crime at all.
2. Amazing architecture.
Historical homes can be found all over Waterbury, such as the C. C. Warren House at 89 South Main Street. This can be seen on Waterbury's Historic Walking Tour.
3. Endless amounts of hiking.
Whether you're trekking along a country road, an established path or creating your own trail through the woods, there is always something to explore while you breath in the fresh air.
4. Ben & Jerry's Factory.
We all love our maple creemees, but sometimes a big bowl of Cherry Garcia hits the spot. Don't miss a trip to the flavor graveyard!
5. You can find just about anything you could ever want.
In the market for a 1945 military jeep?
6. Locals supporting locals.
Farm stands like this one are not only honor system, but they have the freshest and most delicious goods around.
7. Great restaurants!
Farm to table dining can be found all over Waterbury, and restaurants like the Prohibition Pig and Hen of the Wood are out of this world.
8. Birthplace of Heady Topper.
In 2003, the Alchemist first brewed Heady Topper in their restaurant which was where the Prohibition Pig now resides.
9. Town spirit galore!
If you (like most Vermonters) love your parades and fairs, Waterbury has got you covered.
10. Beautiful surroundings.
All this and stunning scenery? Simply wow.
11. Waterbury Center State Park.
Camp, hike or use the beach for the day at the Waterbury Center State Park.
