One of the Most Unique Towns in America, Garden City Is Perfect for a Day Trip in Utah
Plan a day trip to Garden City, a small town nestled on the shores of Bear Lake. Spend time on the water, relaxing on the beach, diving into a raspberry shake, and so much more—it's the perfect day trip destination in northern Utah.
Utah's towns are as varied as its people. Whether you want to spend the day shopping, sightseeing, hiking, or riding an ATV, there's a town in the Beehive State that's the perfect place to spend the day. The little town of Garden City in northern Utah, and right along the shores of Bear Lake, is a unique spot that offers scenic beauty, outdoor recreation, and a one-of-a-kind treat you won't want to miss. While we love this area for a weekend adventure, it's also perfect for a day trip.

The tiny town of Garden City has approximately 700 residents, but you can see right away what makes this town a unique little gem. It's nestled right on the banks of Bear Lake—a beautiful azure lake that's nicknamed the "Caribbean of the Rockies" because of its color and clarity.
The lake and its pretty beaches straddle the Utah/Idaho border and people from both states enjoy all the recreation opportunities here. Boating is particularly popular. Set sail on a lake cruise or gas up a power boat and go waterskiing. You can rent paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, and other water toys at Bear Lake State Park and spend the afternoon exploring or just put your feet in the refreshing water and relax!
After a morning of recreation, you'll need some lunch and a snack. Head to Bear Lake Boulevard and look for the lines of hungry diners outside several of the local fast-food joints. What's all the fuss? Just the tastiest raspberry shake you'll ever try! The thick, creamy shakes are made with local raspberries, which are sweet and juicy. This frosty treat is just what you need on a hot, summer day.
Speaking of raspberries, you'll want to plan a trip to Garden City in early August. The town hosts a huge raspberry festival that includes a parade, festival and fair, live music, and so much more. In fact, this may become your favorite summer festival in Utah.
When the sun goes down, you'll want to stick around for a performance at the Pickleville Playhouse. It bills itself as "Utah's Most Unique Live Theater Experience," and once you see a performance, you'll agree. Enjoy dinner while watching an interactive musical theater show.
Garden City is a day trip destination that offers something for everyone. It's extremely popular in the summer months with its long list of activities, but we also love its beauty after a heavy winter snowfall. No matter when you come, it's one destination with plenty to see and do.
