Spend Three Days At Three Waterfalls On This Weekend Road Trip In Texas

Next time you have a long weekend, use it for a sweet escape to the Texas Hill Country. In just three days, you can visit three breathtaking waterfalls in Texas that will make you feel like you've entered a fairytale. Each one has camping available, too, so you can pitch a tent (or pull up in your RV) and enjoy a night under the stars. It's one of the best road trips in Texas, and we know you'll love it. 1. Pedernales Falls State Park (Johnson City)

Our adventure begins 30 miles west of Austin at Pedernales Falls State Park in Johnson City. Named after the mighty Pedernales River, this unique destination is characterized by slabs of ancient limestone over which the water flows. This motion forms a series of waterfalls that cascade down the rocky ledges for one of the most beautiful sights you'll ever behold.

A separate area of the park offers river access for swimming, tubing, and fishing, and you can also hike, and mountain bike, among other outdoor activities.

Primitive campsites and sites with electricity are available. The latter includes amenities such as restrooms with showers, fire rings with grill, and water hookups. Book your spot on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.

2. Krause Springs (Spicewood)

Day two takes us to Krause Springs, a family-owned, 115-acre property in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. It is amazingly beautiful, and during the summer months, it's more like a lush oasis than Texan countryside.

There are a total of 32 springs on the property, several of which feed a man-made and natural pool that flows into Lake Travis.

Wade in the oases, stroll through a butterfly garden and extend your visit overnight at the campground. Primitive tent camping is available, as well as 24 RV sites with water and electricity. This is an absolutely amazing place to wake up at!

3. Colorado Bend State Park (Bend)

Last - but certainly not least - we'll wrap things up at Colorado Bend State Park. You'll feel like you've entered the rainforest when you explore the rugged wilderness that exists here - especially upon seeing Gorman Falls, a 70-foot waterfall accessible via a three-mile (round-trip) hike. Trust us when we say it's worth every single step.

You can pitch your tent right alongside the Colorado River and enjoy a relaxing night under the stars.

Take your pick from drive-up sites, walk-in tent sites, and primitive hike-in sites. The former two have water nearby but no hookups are available. Amenities include composting toilets and an open-air, rinse-off shower. Reserve your spot on the Texas Parks & Wildlife website.
