You Could Spend Forever Exploring This Texas Small Town, But We’ll Settle For A Weekend

Small towns in Texas are the heartbeat of our state, and one of my personal favorites is Lampasas, TX. With a rich history, a plethora of outdoor activities (including a spring-fed pool), wineries, and even an old-fashioned drive-in restaurant that Elvis used to frequent, there are so many incredible things to do in Lampasas, Texas. This charming town will steal your heart in no time, and it's ideal for a weekend getaway (or perhaps even longer!).

With a population of just over 7,000, Lampasas is a quiet Central Texas town full of history and brimming with attractions for all ages. I could definitely see myself living here - but if you aren't looking to pack up and move, a weekend getaway will surely suffice.

Lampasas' downtown area is seemingly frozen in time - especially the courthouse. Built in 1884, it's the third-oldest courthouse in Texas in continuous operation!

As you explore the town, you'll encounter many old homes that once belonged to pioneering Lampasas families, among other historic buildings. Many of them are Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks!

Easily the most notable attraction in Lampasas is Hancock Springs Park. This park is home to the oldest spring-fed pool in Texas, which people began flocking to in the late 19th century after hearing about the purported healing properties of its mineral waters.

Also at the park are year-round amenities such as a playground, picnic area, and volleyball court.

You can also visit the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden, which is located in Hanna Springs Park (just a few blocks away from the town square!). The park features tons of unique sculptures that rotate on a regular basis since many are for sale.

If you're a fan of quirky roadside attractions, the World's Largest Spur is a must-visit. Take your picture in front of this 35-foot-tall megalith for a memento you'll cherish forever.

Nature lovers, rejoice! Cooper Spring Nature Park is just two blocks from downtown and features a pavilion and mowed trails that showcase a plethora of native plant and animal life.

How about a glass of wine? Texas Legato Winery is a family-owned winery just south of town with award-winning wines made from Texas-grown grapes.

With a tasting room and scenic patio, this boutique winery is every oenophile's dream.

Don't leave town without grabbing a bite to eat at Storm's Drive-In!

Since 1950, this old-school eatery has been slinging the best burgers and shakes around - even Elvis would agree! The King frequented Storm's when he was stationed at Fort Hood, always ordering a burger and strawberry shake.

This cozy farmhouse cabin is the perfect place to stay during your Lampasas getaway.

It oozes rustic charm, yet is still equipped with a full range of modern amenities to make you feel right at home. The cabin has one bedroom and one bathroom and sleeps two guests.
