It’s Impossible To Drive Through This Delightful Texas Town Without Stopping

It's easy to overlook some of Texas' small towns simply because there are so many. But if there's one that shouldn't be passed up, it's definitely Brenham. Located on Highway 290 near College Station, it's a sleepy little town that's managed to not industrialize too much with the changing times. Between acres of blooming wildflowers to the factory where our beloved Blue Bell ice cream is made, Brenham is a true gem that everyone should experience at least once.

Brenham is the epitome of a Texas small town. Instead of towering skyscrapers and bumper-to-bumper traffic, you'll see barns and wide open fields.

It's in the heart of the bluebonnet country, so if you visit in the spring, you'll see millions of the beautiful flowers covering the grass like a blanket.

You'll see ranches sitting on acres of wildflower-studded land, horses and cows roaming as they please. It's almost like a scene from a movie.

Its town square is quaint and historic, with many still-standing, abandoned old buildings as well as plenty of restaurants and shops.

Downtown is full of gorgeous Victorian homes that I could spend hours driving around and admiring. They definitely don't look like they belong in Texas, but I'm not complaining one bit.

You'll definitely want to visit Chappell Hill Lavender Farm. Admission is free, and you can pick your own lavender for just $5 a bunch! You could even bring a picnic lunch to eat amidst the eye-popping purple blooms.

And of course no trip to Brenham would be complete without a tour of the Blue Bell factory.

Learn about the history of our favorite ice cream company, watch it being made before your eyes, and sample some freshly-churned, creamy goodness.

As sunset nears, Pleasant Hill Winery is the perfect place to wrap up your day. Walk up and down the rows of plump, juicy grapes, and sample some of the high-quality wines they produce.

And if you plan on spending the night, I definitely recommend Ant Street Inn. It's an antiquated yet modern bed and breakfast in historic downtown that will make you feel pampered to the max without an overbearingly fancy atmosphere.

All-in-all, Brenham is a chronically overlooked town in the Texas Hill Country, and everyone should experience what it has to offer at least once.

Have you ever visited Brenham? What was you favorite thing that you did there?
