PS: Plug 224 E Main Street, Monteagle into your GPS for directions to High Point Restaurant. It'll get you there with no problem!

High Point Restaurant has made quite the name for itself in Tennessee. In a state so well known for its extensive hospitality and ease, you most likely wouldn't link it to famed gangster Al Capone. But through this tiny restaurant in the middle of nowhere? You can.

The mansion was built in 1929, and the story goes that Al Capone was the one behind the funding. It once contained escape hatches and underground tunnels in the basement, making it the perfect compound for a gangster. Though it was mainly used to transport liquor during Prohibition, the level of mystery and romantic intrigue about the place is palpable.

Can't you just imagine plotting from behind this window, overlooking the garden?

Legend has it that Capone and John Dillinger would sit out on the patio, pouring themselves drinks and playing cards by the hour. The wealth of history about the place is so strong that it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997, and still serves as a stunning spot for dinner.

What better place to have a getaway spot like this than in the gorgeous hills and valleys of Monteagle? Located just a moment away from the famed University of the South in Sewanee, Monteagle is a gorgeous (tiny) town that boasts a whole lot of stunning scenery.

Savage Gulf hems in the tiny town, and if you're looking to adventure on your own, maybe for just a little bit, you can head over to the Sewanee Perimeter Trail.

One of the main draws for many is the drive out to Monteagle. Whether you're headed to High Point or looking for a few minutes away, this isn't a drag of a drive. No, not at all - curving through the hills and valleys of the Cumberland Plateau is a stunning tribute to our home state.

We're just going to leave this GORGEOUS view right here. Just right here.

Have you been to High Point Restaurant? If not, you just may find yourself out there, for the history and the food and the sheer pleasure of driving through Monteagle and its surrounding towns.
