Welcome to Yankton, the "Mother City of the Dakotas."
It is home to just over 15,000 residents and is full of must-see attractions!
Incorporated in 1869, Yankton was the first capital of the Dakota Territory.
It is as much of a historic town as it is beautiful and exciting.
Also known as the "River City," Yankton is located along one of the last free-flowing, natural stretches of the Missouri River.
Because of this, it is a great destination for outdoor recreation in South Dakota and sightseeing.
Since Yankton is historic, there are plenty of places for history lovers to visit.
This includes a wealth of ample museums, sites on the National Register of Historic Places, and historic districts.
Whether you are a foodie or love to shop 'til you drop, you will certainly find something to love in Yankton.
The historic downtown area is home to plenty of local shops and boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and breweries. Yum!
As if you needed another reason to visit and love Yankton, this unique town is also home to a thriving arts scene.
You'll find live theater and special events, galleries, and the Yankton Riverwalk.
There is so much to see and do here!
