The Best State Fairs Happening Each Summer (And What to Eat at Each)
These iconic state fairs across America offer unforgettable rides, traditions, and must-try foods. Every summer is a new opportunity to have some family fun at the fair (as well as try both unique and iconic fair foods).
The summer months are an exciting time. Not only are sandy shores packed with beachgoers, amusement parks and waterparks are open, and outdoor festivals and concerts are in full swing, but it's also the start of state fair season. State fairs have a long history in the U.S., with some dating back nearly 200 years. While many started out as a way to promote agriculture within communities, with farmers sharing techniques and livestock demonstrations, they have transformed into cultural celebrations rooted in tradition over the years.
In modern times, state fairs are hubs of entertainment, featuring live concerts and talent shows, competitions, amusement rides, games, and so much more. Not only that, but the food at state fairs has become a huge draw to visitors, from classics like corn dogs, funnel cakes, and deep-fried candy bars to modern gastronomic creations, including donut burgers and hot beef sundaes, as well as pie, chocolate-covered bacon, or fried pickles on a stick. From food to fun, here are the best state fairs to attend this summer.
