This Charming Town Just Outside Of San Francisco Is A Must Visit

San Francisco may be full of charm itself, but just wait until you go past its city limits. There are a number of small towns within a quick drive (or even bike ride) away to help escape the gritty city life. Here's one of our favorite charming towns just outside of San Francisco.

Half Moon Bay is a quaint coastal city located about 25 miles south of San Francisco.

It's lined with beautiful beaches, including the hidden gem of Cowell Ranch Beach, where you may even see the adorable harbor seals, which can be spotted here between February and May.

Check out the colorful sea life in the many tidepools around Half Moon Bay's beaches.

You might even be able to spot a whale or dolphin right offshore.

Surfers love to hit up the area of Mavericks, where they can catch overs over 60 feet tall.

The downtown strip features plenty of great dining options, from the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company to Cameron's Pub with its double-decker bus.

There are also adorable inns and B&Bs sprinkled throughout town.

If you're searching for something a bit more upscale, head on over to the Ritz Carlton.

Then hit up the Half Moon Bay Golf Links, a jaw-dropping course that hugs the Pacific coastline.

Stop by in October for the annual Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival, one of the oldest and largest local fests in California. Watch for Farmer Mike and his impeccable pumpkin carving skills.

Just don't get too crazy and land yourself in the Half Moon Bay jail.

For more small-town charm, head about 14 miles south to Pescadero and visit the elephant seals at Ano Nuevo State Park.

Then head inland a few miles to visit the goats and try their delicious cheese at Harley Farms.

And, since you're in the area, we recommend traveling 5 miles south of Pescadero to check out the Pigeon Point Lighthouse, built in 1871. It's the tallest of its kind on the West Coast.
