Unless you've lived in Rhode Island for approximately five minutes or have made a real effort not to leave your neighborhood, the odds are good that you've spent some time at Roger Williams Park. In fact, you've probably made many a memory there. The People's Park is deeply rooted in our local history, and we're so lucky to have it.
But just in case it's been a while, or in case you're one of the few who doesn't have memories of this beloved place, we'd like to remind you that Roger Williams Park is the perfect place to spend a beautiful day.
You'll find Roger Williams Park in the heart of Providence, spanning 427 acres.
It's named after Roger Williams, a man who is basically the reason we have Rhode Island as we know it.
This is far more than a park -- it's a historic district that's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It's called The People's Park because the land was gifted to the people of Rhode Island by Betsey Williams, the last descendant of Roger Williams to inherit his land.
In addition to the beautiful walking paths, bike trails, and playground here, you'll find some pretty fantastic amenities.
The Botanical Center has 23,000 square feet of indoor display gardens, an abundance of outdoor gardens, and even an edible forest.
The Roger Williams Park Zoo is definitely one of the highlights of the park.
Surrounded by40 acres of beautiful woodlands, the zoo is home to animals from around the globe.
The Roger Williams Park Zoo is American Humane certified, participating in cooperative conservation and breeding programs to help ensure the future survival of many endangered species.
Plus, they're currently housing some of the most adorable animals on the planet.
You're never too old to stop by the charming Carousel Village.
This place is fun for both children and kids at heart.
Roger Williams Park even has a Museum of Natural History and Planetarium, "the people's university."
Visit on a weekend to experience the magic of this place, which was founded in 1896.
You can visit The People's Park 50 times and have 50 different experiences.
