1. Slater Memorial Park, Pawtucket
The Looff Carousel at Slater Memorial Park is one of Rhode Island's true gems. Built in 1895, this amusement is still running strong. Take a spin to bring back those nostalgic memories, but hang on tight, this carousel is one of the fastest Looff ever built. Perch on one of the many gorgeous horses or choose a spot atop a giraffe or a camel. Slater Memorial Park can be found at 426 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, RI 02860.
2. Modern Diner, Pawtucket, Rhode Island
You'll love the flashback feel to this manufactured Sterling Streamliner Diner. The long-standing restaurant was the first diner to be put on the National Register for Historic Places. History aside, you're in the right place for a fantastic meal. The ever-changing breakfast specials can't be beat and lunch options are just as tasty. 3. BreakTime Bowl & Bar, Pawtucket
This duck-pin bowling alley was built in the 1920s as a perk for textile mill workers. It was restored and reopened several years ago but still has all of its old-school charm. Keep your score manually on paper, this joint does not have modern day computerized scoring which adds to the experience. Pinboys even reset your lane for you after each toss. Settle in for some retro fun at this relic from the past. Visit BreakTime Bowl & Bar at 999 Main St. #1330, Pawtucket, RI 02860. They are open Tuesday - Thursday 4 p.m. - 10 p.m., Friday 4 p.m. - 1 a.m., Saturday 12 p.m. - 1 a.m., and Sunday 12 p.m. - 7 p.m. Children are allowed in the bowling alley up until 8 p.m. Avoid the wait for a lane and reserve one online.
4. Sundaes, Johnston
There's no better stop on a road trip than an ice cream stand. Sundaes has a throwback vibe that complements the yummy frozen treats. Whether you opt for a scoop of ice cream on a cone or one of their overloaded sundaes, you'll be smiling by the end of your visit. Find Sundaes at 95 Greenville Ave., Johnston, RI 02919. 5. Spring Lake Arcade, Burrillville
The oldest surviving penny arcade is right here in Rhode Island. Spring Lake Arcade has been entertaining young and old since the 1930s. Stop by to play retro games that you haven't seen in decades. 6. Rustic Tri View Drive-In, North Smithfield
Let's end this road trip with dinner and a show. Load up on goodies at the snack bar and settle in for a treat. The 1950s Rustic Tri View Drive-In showcases three different double features on three different screens. Choose your movie and watch under the stars just like in the good old days.
