Home to just over 5,500 residents, this enchanting coastal town on Conanicut Island offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor exploration. It is home, after all, to two state parks: Fort Wetherill State Park and Beavertail State Park.

Perched atop 100-foot tall cliffs, Fort Wetherill State Park boasts stunning views of Newport Harbor. It’s perhaps best known for its abandoned ruins which, if you believe the tales, are said to be haunted.

Whether you have a leisurely picnic overlooking the water or drink in breathtaking views from one of the four overlooks, you’ll quickly discover Beavertail State Park and Lighthouse is one of the most beautiful state parks in Rhode Island.

The state park offers a full menu of activities, including a tour of the lighthouse (open seasonally), hiking, birdwatching, and saltwater fishing.

Go on a self-guided tour of Watson Farm, a historical working farm that offers a fascinating glimpse at Rhode Island’s rich past. The farm is open seasonally.
