5 Inexpensive Road Trip Destinations In Rhode Island That Won’t Break The Bank

So let's face the facts! Few things can really be considered a road trip in Rhode Island. The state is so tiny that everything is just a short drive away. One fun fact about true Rhode Islanders is that we really deem any ride lasting more than 15 minutes a "road trip." That said, there are a few places hidden about in rural areas that are definitely worth the drive! Let's call them "Rhody road trips." They might not be considered a long drive to others from bigger states, but they certainly are to us!

1. The Fantastic Umbrella Factory, Charlestown

The Fantastic Umbrella Factory is an amazing assortment of unique gardens, eclectic shops, and so much more! It is completely free to visit and window shop. Just bring a little cash if you want to buy some local pottery, antiques, vintage wear, and so much more! Find it at 4820 Old Post Road in Charlestown.

2. Beavertail State Park, Jamestown

Beavertail State Park isn't just your typical park! Sure the gorgeous scenery is all there matched with stunning views of the Atlantic, but there's so much more. Enjoy a fantastic historic lighthouse transformed into a museum, a small aquarium, and special exhibits. Find it at the end of Beavertail Road on Conanicut Island.

3. Little Compton

The town of Little Compton sits along the border of Massachusetts next to Tiverton. Not only does it offer gorgeous sites, it also has quite a few fun attractions. Enjoy Sakonnet Vineyards, antique shops, and a lovely and charming town center offering a handful of restaurants and shops.

4. Hiking

Take your pick! Rhode Island is filled with amazing state parks and recreational areas all over the state. Enjoy thick forested hikes in places like Chepachet, or coastal walks on the islands.

5. Newport Cliff Walk

This easy going walking trail lines Narragansett Bay off Ocean Avenue in Newport. With sweeping views of the ocean, and lovely historic mansions lining your walk, there are just so many things to enjoy about this free attraction in Newport.
