The 14-Mile Scenic Drive In Rhode Island You Will Want To Take As Soon As You Can

Route 77 from Tiverton to Little Compton offers a scenic summer drive with historical sites and local attractions.

While there's never a bad time to go for a scenic drive in Rhode Island, there's nothing quite like exploring the Ocean State on a warm summer day. And while the season's days are numbered, you've still got plenty of time left to enjoy it. We highly recommend a cruise down Route 77 as soon as possible, otherwise known as the route from Tiverton to Little Compton.

Route 77 is only 14 miles in length, but they're some seriously stunning miles.

This old state highway runs from Route 24 in Tiverton to Rhode Island Road in Little Compton.

You may have taken this route dozens of times, or perhaps it's new territory for you -- but either way, you'll love it.

This drive is always delightful.

You'll start in the charming town of Tiverton, a little gem in Newport County.

Tiverton is located on the eastern shore of Narragansett Bay, across the Sakonnet River from Aquidneck Island.

As you can imagine, this little town is brimming with local history.

It was incorporated in 1747, but its roots go all the way back to 1694. Make sure to check out Tiverton Four Corners and its country-style shops and restaurants.

As you continue down the highway, make sure to stop by Sakonnet Vineyard and pick up some local wine for later.

Nestled between two waterways, Sakonnet has distinct maritime conditions that make it a fantastic place for wine grapes to thrive. If you'll be riding in the passenger seat on the road trip, you can always stick around for a tasting.

Next, you'll arrive in Little Compton, one of Rhode Island's most underrated small towns.

Driving into town feels like going back in time in the best way.

Little Compton is quiet and peaceful, full of understated attractions and small, beautiful beaches.

This route takes you to a lot of stunning scenery for such a short duration.

Will you be able to make this scenic drive before fall?
