The One Town Near Portland That Turns Into A Winter Wonderland Each Year
Need a break from the rain and mud already? Head to the great mountain to the east where it is always a snowy wonderland come winter. Government Camp is the only town within 5 miles of the mountain, making it the de facto mountain town to get your winter play time on. Head there this winter and see what all the fun is about.
There is only one way in and one way out. Highway 26 transforms before your eyes as you rise in altitude and snow begins to surround you.
Once you have arrived, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy. Snowshoeing, sledding, skiing and snowboarding are all big on the mountain.
If you want to stay awhile, Timberline Lodge is a great launching off point for your adventure.
With blue skies and nothing but snow, there is a world awaiting you to explore.
There are activities for the whole family to enjoy together. When you are done outdoors, you can warm up inside one of the many restaurants and taverns on the mountain.
Making snowmen is a great way to pass the day away.
After a rest, its time to head out into the snow again for another round of sledding, just be sure to bundle up warm.
At only about an hour away from the city, it may not seem like you traveled far enough, but it sure feels like the North Pole on the mountain.
