This Epic One-Day Road Trip Across Pennsylvania Is Full Of Adventures From Sunrise To Sunset
A one-day road trip across Pennsylvania offers scenic views, historic sites, and a bit of shopping.
We can pack a ton of fun into one day, and that’s just what this one-day road trip across Pennsylvania does. From sunrise to sunset, you’ll enjoy an adventure that will take you to some of the most beautiful places in Pennsylvania. Add a delicious meal (and maybe a bit of shopping), and you’ve got the perfect day trip.
You won’t do a whole lot of driving – just over three hours – so you won’t spend too much on gas. Here are the Google Map directions for this day of fun; you can even flip the order if you want. Whatever you do, fill up the gas tank; pack lots of goodies, and hit the road for a day of fun. It all starts with one of the best sunrises in Pennsylvania.
1. Gettysburg National Military Park – Gettysburg
Do you have favorites places to see the sun rise in Pennsylvania? If you don't yet, you soon will! Known for its brilliant sunrises and sunsets, Gettysburg National Military Park promises a beautiful way to start the day. It’s even been named as having one of the best sunrises in the United States. Catch a gorgeous sunrise before you do a bit of exploring.
Start your visit at the Visitors Center and Museum, where you’ll get a good overview of the Battle of Gettysburg and learn more about this historic town. Wear comfortable walking shoes, too, because you’ll want to explore a bit of the park – including Devil’s Den and Gettysburg National Cemetery – during your visit. Be forewarned, however, that the town, including the battlefield, is teeming with the paranormal. (However, it also boasts some of the best scenic viewpoints in Pennsylvania, too.) Learn why Gettysburg is known as the most haunted town in Pennsylvania.

2. Street Of Shops – Lewistown
You could probably spend days exploring Gettysburg National Military Park, but our next stop awaits. You’ll definitely want to arrive before 2:30 p.m. if you plan on having a meal at The Restaurant at the Street of Shops. (Call ahead, however, to confirm hours.) Even if you’re not hungry, stretch your legs and do a bit of exploring in this old-fashioned shopping village that boasts more than 500 vendors and shops. 3. Sproul State Forest – Renovo
Once you’ve had a bite to eat and shopped a bit, hop back in the car, so you can make it to Sproul State Forest in Renovo for sunset. Pretty much anywhere you go in this massive forest, you’re guaranteed beautiful views of the sun as it falls asleep. If you have time before sunset, however, set off on one of the forest’s hiking trails, go horseback riding, or do a bit of kayaking. You can even camp out overnight where you will enjoy stargazing and start another day with a spectacular Pennsylvania sunrise. Then take a peek at this scenic drive in Sproul State Forest.
