Nestled alongside the mouth of Ochoco Creek, Prineville is a charming town with a population of just under 10,000.

About 10 minutes out of town you will find the scenic Ochoco Reservoir. This high desert oasis is simply stunning.

If you want to go a bit further out of Prineville, the Crooked River Scenic Drive is the perfect way to view some of the amazing scenery in the area.
This route will take you along the Crooked River past gorgeous views of farm country, gently sloping hills, rock formations, and the Prineville Reservoir.
Another spot you won't want to miss near Prineville is Stein's Pillar. Located about 16 miles east of town, this fascinating natural wonder will make you do a double take.
To reach the pillar, take a 4-mile hike through Ochoco National Forest. The trail can be a bit strenuous at times, but the views are incredible.
If you go a bit further out of town, you'll find the epic Smith Rock.
This state park is a rock climber's paradise, and offers a variety of fun day hikes for all skill levels. It is about a half hour drive away from Prineville.
