The Most Peaceful City in Oregon Is the Perfect Quiet Escape
Discover one of the most peaceful cities in Oregon, perfect for a quiet getaway with scenic views, relaxing activities, and small-town charm.
If you’re looking for a quiet place to really get away from it all on the Oregon Coast, then you’ll love Neskowin. This peaceful town in Oregon is approximately 20 minutes north of Lincoln City, so residents have easy access to a larger town for shopping and dining, yet it's remote enough that it is one of the most quiet towns in Oregon to visit. With ample charm, absolutely gorgeous views, and local businesses, this is one of the most relaxing places in Oregon to visit—a hidden gem worthy of your bucket list.
Why This Is One of the Most Peaceful Cities in Oregon

Neskowin, Oregon, may very well be one of the most peaceful places in the U.S. This small town nestled on the coast is home to approximately 300 residents and is often overlooked by tourists for larger nearby coastal towns. However, simply walking around Neskowin, you'll feel the town's slower-paced vibe. You'll feel right at home the minute you arrive.
What to Do for a Relaxing Visit
A visit to Neskowin can be quiet and calm, or you can easily stay busy. Despite a small population, there are several businesses to visit like the Cafe on Hawk Creek, which is a popular restaurant where you can enjoy made-from-scratch dishes, including freshly-baked pizzas, with ocean views. There are a few hotels, too, if you want to stay for a few days. The Proposal Rock Inn is located along one of the local creeks and is just steps from the ocean. It's one of the most popular accommodation options in town and after you visit once, you'll quickly understand why.

There's even an interesting natural wonder here—the Neskowin Ghost Forest. Here, you'll find tree stumps that are remnants of an ancient Sitka spruce forest. They were unearthed during a storm in the winter of 1997-1998, and they're approximately 2,000 years old. Scientists believe the forest was destroyed by an earthquake or a tsunami. Over 100 stumps can be seen at low tide.

Of course, the beach at Neskowin is beautiful and serene. It's a state recreation site, in fact, known as Neskowin Beach State Recreation Site. And of course, you don’t want to miss views of Proposal Rock, a unique island just off the coast named after a sea captain who took his girlfriend to this scenic destination to propose to her in the early 1900s. This is one of the best places near Neskowin for capturing sunset views—it truly is exquisite.
What to Know Before You Go

If you are planning a visit to this scenic town along the Oregon Coast, summer is the best time as you’ll enjoy the warmer weather, more services, and countless options for outdoor activities. However, this is also when the coast comes alive with tourists, so if venturing into larger towns, you can expect crowds and higher lodging prices. Keep in mind that if visiting in the winter months, you are more likely to experience rain and storms.
However, no matter when you choose to visit this peaceful town in Oregon, you are in for one quiet, relaxing experience. There's really nothing else quite like it on the Oregon Coast. It's no surprise that the few people who live there love it so much. It is—without a doubt—one of the most peaceful places in the U.S. Stop by for a visit, but be sure to keep things mellow. That's how the people of this town like it!
