Few People Know There’s An Ohio Island You Can Walk To
Whiskey Island in Ohio is a hidden gem accessible by foot, featuring a marina, park, restaurant, and various recreational activities.
By now, you've likely learned that you can take a ferry to some pretty awesome islands in Ohio. (Be sure to check out this one-of-a-kind island day trip.) Did you know there's also an island in Ohio that you can walk to? Whiskey Island is tucked away on the mouth of the Cuyahoga River, just a quick little trip from the city of Cleveland. What was once a U.S. Coast Guard station is now a recreational area home to a park, restaurant and bar.
Here's why you'll want to explore this little island for yourself:
At the east end of Edgewater Park, you'll find a road that connects to a little-known peninsula called Whiskey Island.
Address: 2800 Whiskey Island Drive, Cleveland, OH, 44102
What was once a U.S. Coast Guard station from the 1940s - 1970s is now a public marina, park, restaurant and bar.
It's a best kept secret. Unless you're a local, you likely don't venture over to Whiskey Island.
You can dock your boat at the marina or walk through Edgewater Park to reach the island. The island's Wendy Park features stunning views of the city and covers more than 20 acres.
The island hosts several festivals and concerts throughout the year, including the annual Burning River Fest. It's also an excellent place to view fireworks.
Wendy Park also features sand volleyball courts. They're right by the water and perfect for some fun in the sun with family and friends.

While you're here, you'll definitely want to check out Whiskey Island Still & Eatery. The atmosphere is great and the food is exceptional.
In the summer, you can visit Monday - Thursday from 5 p.m. - close and Friday - Sunday from 11 a.m. - close.
On the menu, you'll find everything from burgers and tacos to Lake Erie Perch and craft beer. To view a full menu in a separate tab or window, click here.
Note: Whiskey Island Still & Eatery is the former Sunset Grille, housed in a restored 1900s sawmill.
While the live entertainment, delicious grub and recreational actives might attract you here, it's the waterfront sunsets that will make you stay awhile.
