Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park is definitely one of North Dakota's best places for a day trip.
The park is full of historical sites and buildings from the original fort built well over a century ago.
A few of these sites include the fort itself and also Custer's House, shown below, that is open for tours. You can walk through these fascinating places and see how well they've been preserved. It's like taking a step back in time!
The On-A-Slant Village is another part that makes this park so great. You won't find any other village like this in the world.
Each of these earth lodges are enterable so you can see them yourself. They are accurately set up so you can feel like you were actually there when they were being used.

Along with awesome historic sites you can see, they also have plenty of knowledgable tour guides as well as special events that'll take you right back to when this place was a busy fort and truly immerse you.
The rest of the park is absolutely stunning. There is many acres of natural protected area along the rivers that have dense trees, open meadows, tons of wildlife, and plenty to see. Camping and hiking are a huge draw to here.
By far one of the best ways to experience the park is by taking their trolley, the only operating trolley in North Dakota. It will guide you on an adventure through the history and the stunning scenery. This place is really one of a kind!
