10 Things You Better Have If You Want To Survive In North Carolina

Maybe you've just moved here, or maybe you're planning a visit...well, there are some crucial things you'll need to survive in our state. While we are typically very friendly people, with that southern hospitality down to an art, there still might be some times you feel a bit out of place. Just remember these ten things to make the most out of your NC experience!

1. A Big Appetite

From bbq, to burgers, to slaw, to carolina style, to fancy restaurants, to a Krispy Kreme doughnut, NC is renowned for its "foodie" culture that consistently ranks as one of the best in the nation. Trust me, you'll want to try it all.

2. An Adventurous Spirit

If you're visiting NC you won't just be sitting around watching TV. The little downtime you will have will hopefully involve a sweet tea or a nice meal. Regardless, leave your fears at home as North Carolina is packed to the brim with adventure and you won't want to miss out. Which leads me to this one...

3. A Good Pair of Hiking Boots

The mountains are gorgeous to look at, but you're going to want to explore. Make sure to bring your hiking boots with you!

4. A Good Pair of Flip Flops

Preferably a pair that is easy to take on and off for long walks on the beach.

5. And Speaking of the Beach...

Umbrella, sunscreen, beach towel, and a good book to read!

6. A Nice Camera (or some decent iPhonography skills)

With so much beauty in our state, you're going to want to capture it all. Honestly, at times it's so gorgeous you don't have to do much besides hit the shutter!

7. An Open Mind

Sure, North Carolina might be the south but there's all types of diverse, eclectic, interesting people found in our state (cough Asheville).

8. Appreciation for Good Music

Particularly bluegrass music, it's in our blood!

9. A Decent Knowledge of College Basketball

Mainly the ones revolving around the teams in our state. Well really, general sports knowledge is a plus because it WILL come up in conversation.

10. A Willingness to Incorporate "Y'all" into your Vocabulary

Y'all come back now, ya hear!
