This 417-Mile Road Trip Leads To Some Of The Most Scenic Parts Of New York, No Matter What Time Of Year It Is

A three-day road trip itinerary to scenic destinations in New York, including mountains, waterfalls, and lakes.

Whether you like fields, mountains, waterfalls, or beaches, New York is a beautiful place. There are so many gorgeous destinations here that we decided to make an itinerary for a road trip to scenic places in New York. The hardest part was limiting ourselves to just a few spots! You can check out the trip on Google Maps and edit it to your liking.

The entire trip is just over seven hours of driving time, making this an ideal excursion for a three-day weekend. You'll definitely want plenty of time to explore all these spots.

The great thing about this trip is that it's perfect for any time of year!

1. Ausable Chasm: 2144 U.S. 9, Ausable Chasm, NY 12911

You'll start off this road trip in New York at Ausable Chasm. This place is absolutely incredible and is often referred to as "the little Grand Canyon of the East."

The gorge is about two miles long and is considered one of the natural wonders of the Adirondacks. Visiting in summer means you can take a wonderful float trip through the canyon, but honestly, it's stunning at any time of year.

2. Whiteface Mountain: Wilmington, NY

Next, you'll head southwest a bit to get to Whiteface Mountain. As the fifth-highest peak in New York, this is an extremely popular spot for winter sports enthusiasts.

But make no mistake about it, this place is incredible all year-round. The area offers tons of great trails and sightseeing opportunities, even when there's no snow for skiing.

3. Lake George

Lake George is nicknamed the "Queen of American Lakes" and it's easy to see why. The little village that shares the lake's name is a great, walkable resort town with plenty of fun shops to check out.

As you might expect, the area is super-popular in the summer with those looking to escape the heat with a dip into the lake. But it's also got plenty of great winter activities, like ice skating. Find out more on the town's official tourism website.

4. Watkins Glen State Park: 1009 N Franklin St, Watkins Glen, NY 14891

Watkins Glen is so stunning that many consider it one of the most beautiful gorges in the country.

The 1.2-square mile park has plenty of trails, waterfalls, and gorges to check out.

5. Canandaigua City Pier

We feel like with so many beautiful places in New York, this trip could go on indefinitely, but we're going to make our final stop in Canandaigua. This Finger Lakes spot is a great combination of history, scenery, and charm.

The area's little boathouses are so quaint! This is such an adorable small town in New York that's got so much to see and do.

We would have loved to include more beautiful places in New York on this road trip (Kaaterskill Falls, anyone?), but unfortunately, not many of us are able to travel 24/7, so we had to cut it short for time! What must-see stunning spots would you have added? Share your thoughts in the comments!
