Out of all the places in our country that you can live, you'll always hear us advocating for the great state of New York. Sure, we can all babble on about the high taxes that we pay or the harsh winters that we experience each year but when it comes down to it, there's no place we'd rather call home. With a state as large as ours and made up of so many different regions, there are plenty of places that you'll hear us recommend when it comes to choosing where you should plant your feet. Thanks to the folks over at Livability though, they've pointed out one incredible destination that made their Top 100 Best Places To Live In 2019 that's here in the Empire State. See if it's your hometown that made their list!
Situated along the southern shores of Cayuga Lake, the city of Ithaca was named one of the best places to live in 2019.
With a population of just 30,000, Ithaca may technically be a city but when you're here you'll always feel like you're in the midst of a small town and all of its charm.
Ithaca made its way onto Livability's Top 100 list with positive scores in categories like Infrastructure, Health, and Education - with an overall LIV Score of 625, only 49 points off from the top destination.
Over the course of history, Ithaca has become known as New York's City of Waterfalls, with more than 150 waterfalls within Ithaca's limits and an abundance of parks to explore.
Livability pointed out the importance of one of Ithaca's highest-scoring categories, Education, showcasing how the city is home to two significant colleges - Cornell University and Ithaca College.
An easy-going city, you'll find plenty to do here with family-friendly attractions like the Sciencenter in town that will leave you feeling completely fascinated and wanting to explore Ithaca even more.
The city is also one that's incredibly walkable, with the average commute being just 16 minutes here in Ithaca and many often traveling by foot or bike.
Places in town like Ithaca Commons, a pedestrian mall, also showcase how you can find everything you need in one spot with more than a hundred shops all within walking distance of each other.
Soon, people from all over the Finger Lakes Region and beyond will begin to visit the town as the weather gets warmer and people begin to long for a day at the Ithaca Farmers Market - one of the best markets that you can check out here in New York.
Like we said this city is easy-going and has a small-town feel, it has everything you love from local thrift shops and flea markets to shopping malls and festivals all throughout the year that keeps residents busy. There's so much to love!
So if you're lucky enough to call Ithaca home or ever have visited here, tell us in the comments why you love this city so much!
