The up-and-Coming City in New Jersey That’s Perfectly Sized

There are so many great things to do in Edgewater, a small city in New Jersey with a fast-rising future.

In covering both New Jersey and New York, I've fallen in love with the never-ending hustle and bustle of the big city. New York is a marvelous city to visit, but living there comes with its own challenges, of course. That's why many people who work in the city live across the river in New Jersey, and one town, Edgewater, is quickly becoming a hub of culture and cuisine in its own right.

A Scenic Escape Just Minutes From Manhattan

Just past Weehawken and only a 25-minute bus ride or 15-minute drive from the center of New York City, Edgewater is an up-and-coming city known for its top dining scene and beautiful views. The education system is highly praised here, for any parents thinking of moving in, but even if you're just visiting for the day, you'll find there's plenty to see and do.

One of Edgewater's most unique features is its crystal-clear view of the NY skyline, which can be seen from many of the town's best restaurants. For breakfast, we highly recommend the Brownstone Pancake Factory, known for its indulgent, over-the-top stacks. Dinner offers plenty of high-end waterfront restaurants like Haven on the Hudson. Need a quick pick-me-up? Head to Kuppi Coffee Company, a local favorite specializing in craft coffee drinks.

Discover Japanese Culture at Mitsuwa Marketplace

If I had to pick one favorite spot in Edgewater, though, it would be Mitsuwa Marketplace. Edgewater is one of the top spots for Japanese culture and immigration in New Jersey, and the community is served by this massive indoor market and food hall. Offering hard-to-find Japanese groceries, it's an amazing spot to browse, pick up some sweets and snacks, and have a lunch of freshly made Japanese noodles or tempura. It's worth the trip to Edgewater on its own, but you can easily spend a full day in this riverfront town.
