The Under-The-Radar Scenic Drive In New Jersey That Showcases Prairies, Farms, And Stone Bridges
Living in New Jersey, it's amazing to discover just how many hidden areas of the state still have wonderful surprises waiting - especially if you've got a car and are ready to go exploring. That's definitely the case for one underrated scenic drive in NJ - the Warren Heritage Scenic Byway. This roughly 19-mile drive through rural Warren County in the northwestern part of the state travels from Greenwich Township to Hackettstown - with some great surprises along the way. This is an area first settled by the Lenni Lenape Indians, and the byway traces their hunting and fishing grounds, which would later become trade routes for European settlers and later a major agricultural and trade corridor. Today, the byway is a beautiful way to see remnants of New Jersey's past, along with some gorgeous scenery. So hop in the car and come along with us to discover one of the Garden State's true hidden gems.
The landscape on the Warren Heritage Scenic Byway is one of New Jersey's most beautiful spots, featuring rolling prairies lush with plant life...
As well as peaceful bodies of water that carry a lovely breeze on warmer days.
The architecture around the byway is great as well, featuring many old stone bridges that have been preserved for decades or more.
The isolated nature of the byway means you'll have many spots to yourself, but you'll also pass through some gorgeous small towns and parks along the way.
One of those parks is Bread Lock Park, a historic landmark along the Morris Canal Greenway that used to be a popular trading spot.
Today, many of the old buildings have been restored and make for an amazing touring spot if you want to take a break from the scenic drive.
Whether you take this drive fast or take all day to explore, this hidden gem of a byway is well worth the journey.
