How I’d Redo My Trip to the Atlantic City Boardwalk in New Jersey

I'm excited to take another trip to Atlantic City, and I'm going to be changing a lot of things.

I've traveled across New Jersey, but there are a surprising number of iconic locations I've only managed to visit once. Atlantic City, the state's Vegas on the shore, is a classic example. It's pretty far from home, and the public transportation there can be spotty and prolonged. The one time I managed to visit in recent years was on a casino bus with a traveling companion for part of one day. We only had a few hours in the city, enough to explore if you're not playing the casino games like most riders. It was a fun day, but it felt like a teaser of what the city offers. I'm very excited to take another trip to Atlantic City this year, and I've assembled a list of all the things I will do differently.

Of course, the first major change I will make this time is...do more! When walking the boardwalk last time, I got to do one pass on the world's longest boardwalk and mostly visited a few candy shops. But the boardwalk is so full of fun attractions and unique dining spots that I will give it a more thorough look this time.

Some things were also out of my hands last time — like visiting the Atlantic City Aquarium. This beloved local institution was closed for an extensive renovation the last time I was in town, but it's finally reopening in March 2025.

I also want to see an Atlantic City sunset by the shore for the first time, and I'm looking forward to exploring the city's nightlife and dining scene. Last time, I only had one meal here at a Pho restaurant. Atlantic City is full of amazing dinner spots, and I will likely pick Setaara, an acclaimed and innovative French-Afghan restaurant, this time.

Of course, this might be too much for one day. I'm planning to stay one night, book a room at the Borgata, and give myself time to indulge in the hotel's world-famous buffet and acclaimed Pan-Asian restaurant. It looks like a little slice of heaven to me.

Have you taken a trip to Atlantic City before? If not, this destination is best enjoyed with a friend or special someone, so find the perfect travel companion and start planning your own adventure by the Jersey Shore's most glittering city. Book your stay at the Borgata while you're at it.
