Find yourself looking for "day trips near me in Nevada?" Day trips are always fun, but a day trip on a train adds a bit of nostalgia to the journey. Not to mention, it virtually eliminates the hassles of road trips in a car, like traffic and pumping gas. The Silver State may not have a ton of options, but there are several really great train excursions in Nevada that are definitely worth checking out.
1. The Nevada Northern Railway and Museum (Ely)
This National Historic Landmark museum features an amazing 90-minute passenger train ride. You'll get to enjoy a century-old steam train winding through the most historic places to visit in Nevada.
They've even got fantastic seasonal options that are quite popular. In the fall, check out the Haunted Ghost Train. And the winter offers the magical Santa's Reindeer Flyer!

2. The Virginia and Truckee Railroad (Virginia City)
This railway offers several different 35-minute routes to Gold Hill and back. Passengers can choose between diesel or steam trains for different experiences. There are also special event trains, like the Heritage Days Battle Train where historical actors act out Civil War battles. Halloween and Christmas trains are also popular!
Riders will get see mines containing silver ore veins. The trip will take you through Tunnel No. 4 and you'll descend 1600 feet to the valley floor. You'll get to see many historic places to visit in Nevada, including many Comstock mine sites. At journey's end, you'll reach the historic city of Gold Hill.

3. The Nevada Southern Railway (Boulder City)
The Nevada State Railroad Museum offers rides on the Nevada Southern Railway excursion train. The 35-minute ride is about eight miles long. You'll take the same route used by the Union Pacific Railroad way back in 1931 to supply materials for use in constructing the Hoover Dam.
Passengers will get to experience history dating way back to the 1930s. You can choose either an open air car or an air conditioned/heated Pullman coach.
