There are advantages to being located far away from any big city. For one, it makes for the best stargazing.

With a desert location about halfway between Reno and Las Vegas, Tonopah knows this firsthand. Both USA Today and Sky & Telescope magazine once listed this small town among the No. 1 stargazing destinations, noting "the only bright lights you see are the stars."
