8 Surprising Things You Never Thought About Doing In Nebraska

Discover unique and adventurous activities to do in Nebraska, from parasailing to scuba diving.

There's never a shortage of fun things to do in Nebraska, but if you've been here for a while you've probably done most of them. This list is for you - tourists or residents - who think there is nothing left to do in Nebraska.

1. Parasailing

Step into a harness and glide up into the air as you're pulled behind a boat.

2. Kite surfing

You don't need big ocean waves to go surfing - just a giant sail to pull you along.

3. Stand-up paddleboarding

This trendy sport has been popping up all over in the past several years - even in Nebraska!

4. Tanking

Ride in a huge plastic or metal livestock water tank while you float down a river. It's calm enough inside that some of them are even equipped with picnic tables. A ride typically takes several hours, so you can settle in for a good time with a group of friends.

5. Airboating

Airboat tours are a fun way to see the area. The boats skim along on top of the water so they can navigate even the ultra-shallow Platte.

6. Feeding giraffes (and other beasts)

If you're a member of the Henry Doorly Zoo, you're entitled to some special behind-the-scenes access once a year on Members' Day. My personal favorite is climbing the stairs inside of the giraffe enclosure and holding out branches of leaves for the giraffes to eat from.

7. Walking back in time

Nebraska has a number of awesome pioneer and frontier attractions that make you feel like you've really stepped back a couple hundred years. Harold Warp Pioneer Village, Lincoln County Historical Museum, Dobby's Frontier Town, and the Durham Museum are just a few places to experience Nebraska's unique past.

8. Scuba diving

Who would have thought you could scuba dive in Nebraska? A favorite spot for divers is Sandy Channel near the town of Elm Creek.

Nebraska has tons of amazing experiences to offer if you're willing to look for them. What are some other things that most people don't know you can do in Nebraska?
