Big Sky Was Named One of the 50 Most Beautiful Small Towns in America

We might be biased, but we happen to think every small town in Montana is beautiful. In a state where the largest city is less populated than most states' mid-sized spots, it's safe to say that small-town living is what we prefer. But we're always happy when someone from outside the Treasure State agrees with us, which is why we were so excited to learn that Big Sky is considered one of the 50 most beautiful small towns in America. Naturally, we agree with this assessment!

Big Sky is a small mountain town that sits in both Gallatin and Madison Counties. It is surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, and if you've ever been, you know it's basically Heaven on Earth. Big Sky was definitely appropriately named, as the views from town will prove. Stargazing here is an absolutely incredible experience, with virtually no light pollution.

The town is best known for Big Sky Resort, a year-round destination for staying, playing, shopping, and dining. People come from all over Montana (and the country) to spend time here, and the resort has attracted numerous celebrities. The views from on top of the mountain are spectacular.

And we love coming here anytime of year to engage in the wealth of activities, enjoy the fresh air, and take photos. If you love trails, you’re in luck. There are numerous biking and hiking trails, each one revealing different parts of the mountain and distinctive views.

One of our favorite hiking trails in Big Sky is Ousel Falls, which practically sits right in the middle of town. This trail is approximately 1.5 miles and is considered easy. It's well trafficked, fairly flat, and absolutely gorgeous. Not only will you get to enjoy a waterfall finish, but you'll also enjoy breathtaking forest views, cross bridges, and come to overlooks that will inspire in every way.

While there's never a bad time to visit Big Sky, we highly recommend checking it out in the winter at least once. Enjoying the snow is one of the biggest draws here. We love that there are so many places to ski, snowboard, snowshoe, and other winter activities.

Views like these just don't get any better!
