The Under-The-Radar Scenic Drive In Massachusetts That Showcases Mountains And City Views

After a busy week, I often find myself just needing to get out and take a drive to clear my head. It just takes a few miles on the road to help me relax and regroup. While any drive will do, road trips with gorgeous scenery and fun stops along the way are my favorite trips to take. The Mohawk Trail Scenic Byway in the northwestern part of the state and Route 6 in Cape Cod are two well-known Massachusetts scenic drives that you may have already explored. But have you ever taken a drive down Chickatawbut Road?

Scenic Chickatawbut Road is a short but sweet scenic route that is easily accessible from the Boston area. Although it is only six miles long, this road is packed with beautiful views that will make you forget that you are just minutes away from city life.

The drive runs from Braintree, Massachusetts to Milton, Massachusetts. Along the way, you will pass through the gorgeous Blue Hills Reservation.

The Reservation is a beautiful state park set on 7,000 acres of land.

If you choose to make a stop at the Blue Hills parking area, you will be treated to great views of the city skyline.

Gaze through the site's mounted tower viewers or bring your own pair of binoculars.

If you are up for a hike, you are in the right place. There are 125 miles of Blue Hills trails to explore. There is a good mix of easy, moderate, and challenging hikes.

The Great Blue Hill via Skyline Trail is ranked as the number one Blue Hills Reservation trail on AllTrails.

This popular, 3.0-mile, moderately challenging loop hike typically takes under two hours to complete. Along the way, you will be able to see breathtaking scenery and wildflowers.

There are also some gorgeous city views!

You can also catch a glimpse of the 35-foot Eliot Observation Tower, a beautiful old stone structure that was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The tower has been undergoing recent renovations, so it is occasionally closed to the public.

If you aren’t up for a hike but still want to enjoy some nature, stop in at the Blue Hills Trailside Museum. The museum has lots of fun activities for all ages including wildlife exhibits, birding programs, and children’s art and nature activities.

There is also a fun gift shop inside the museum.

Have you taken the Chickatawbut Road scenic drive? If so, what did you think about it? More information on the Blue Hills Reservation hikes is available on AllTrails. If you are looking for a great place to eat when you arrive in Milton, I suggest checking out the celebrity-owned eatery Novara.
