You’ll Want To Plan A Day Trip To Boston’s Magical Butterfly House

The experience of being inside a butterfly house usually inspires feelings of wonder. However, the butterfly garden inside the Boston Museum of Science also offers sweeping vistas of the Charles River, making it a truly special place to visit.

While not large, you can’t beat the location and views from this butterfly garden.

It is located on Blue Wing, Level 2. The address for the museum is: 1 Science Park, Boston, MA 02114.

Once in the garden, free-flying butterflies flit about overhead. You’ll have the chance to spot local species from New England.

Some of the butterflies here are typically found in exotic locales around the world. During winter, you can sit back and pretend you’ve escaped to the tropics!

The "Emergence Box" shows the transition from caterpillar to butterfly. Fortunate visitors may be able to watch chrysalids transforming into butterflies. It's both educational and beautiful!

Since the Butterfly Garden is located within the Museum of Science, you do need to pay (beyond your ticket to the Exhibit Halls) to get in.

These timed tickets cost $5 for museum members and $6 for non-members. Your local library may allow you to borrow museum passes.
