Are you excited about another adventure in the Old Line State? Well, how about a day trip to the town of Oakland for a hiking and dining excursion? This hiking and dining day trip in Maryland is a great way to get some exercise and then refuel at a local restaurant.
This quick day trip to Oakland starts at Swallow Falls State Park, home to some of the most gorgeous scenery in Maryland.
If you're in the mood for a short trek, you can hike along the 1.25-mile Canyon Trail which will take you through an old-growth forest and past several waterfalls. One of the falls, Muddy Creek Falls, happens to be the highest waterfall in Maryland, and at 53 feet, it's absolutely stunning!
If you have time for a longer trek, you can choose the 5.5-mile trail that will bring you through Swallow Falls State Park and then onward to Herrington Manor State Park. Mountain biking is also a possibility along this trail.
For more information on hiking at Swallow Falls State Park, visit the website of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
After you're done hiking and working up an appetite, it's time to eat! Head on over to Ace's Run Restaurant and Pub for some delicious comfort food.
With a waterfront location on Deep Creek Lake, you'll have gorgeous views as you dine. Furthermore, if you enjoy boating, you can actually boat straight to the restaurant between May and October. In the winter, on the other hand, you can snowmobile here.
While Ace's Run is best known for its crab cakes and crab dip, there are plenty of other delectable options on the menu. The fried dill pickle chips are a fantastic starter and there are several salads if you're looking for a healthier choice.
The beef sliders and crab cake sliders are also big hits here. Three are served with house chips for the perfect post-hike meal!
For more information, visit the Ace's Run website.
