1. Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Brunswick

We begin our adventure in the lovely town of Brunswick with a hefty dose of history and culture at the Bowdoin College Museum of Art. The collections of paintings, sculptures, and artifacts are mesmerizing, and you can see pieces like Assyrian tablets, Etruscan pottery, European and American paintings, and so much more from so many global cultures. Even better, admission is always free! It is closed on Mondays, but hey, this is a weekend trip, right?

2. Acker’s Acres Disc Golf, Bowdoinham

After filling our eyes and minds with centuries of human creativity, let’s get moving and have some fun with a round or two of disc golf! Acker’s Acres Disc Golf is a gorgeous location with some of the best disc golf in the state. It’s a family business that’s been running for more than 20 years, providing a great way to get outside and enjoy nature. Plus, it's a fun activity that’s active but not too strenuous. There’s food sold on site as well, so you can grab a quick bite before you continue on our journey.

3. Colburn House State Historic Site, Pittston

As we continue, we’ll go back in time to a house built by some of the earliest settlers in the Kennebec River region of Maine. Reuben Colburn built this historic house in 1765 along with a brickyard, a sawmill, a grist mill, and a boatyard, and helped provide materials to new settlers. He worked with George Washington to help form the Continental Army and supplied the army for several of its expeditions that disembarked from this location. The house is also a historical museum where you can learn an in-depth history of early America.

4. Wiscasset Speedway, Wiscasset

Now let’s have some adrenaline-fueled fun at the Wiscasset Speedway. There are many kinds of races that take place, including Enduro races, modified car races, pro stocks, and tons more. Plus, there are events with kids' races and charity events like bicycle races. There are even smash-up derbies from time to time. This is a place the kids (and adults!) will get a thrill!

5. Monkey C Monkey Do, Wiscasset

Whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart, you’ll have a blast at Monkey C Monkey Do! It’s a massive jungle gym where the fun is huge, and safety is paramount. There are ropes courses, ziplines, rope swings, laser tag, and areas dedicated to the little ones. Ice cream and other snacks are available, and the staff is friendly and always makes sure you’re secured so you can let loose with peace of mind. It’ll make you feel like a kid again!

6. Taste of Maine, Woolwich

By now, you’ve likely worked up a heck of an appetite, and you won’t go away hungry at Taste of Maine. It has the biggest lobster rolls in all of Maine and has been a local favorite and family-run restaurant since 1978. It has every seafood favorite as well as scrumptious steaks, burgers, pasta, and so much more. It’s a satisfying conclusion to this spontaneous road trip in Maine.
