This Road Trip Will Give You The Best Maine Beach Day You’ve Ever Had

Plan a perfect summer day in Maine by visiting two beaches, enjoying local food, and ending with amusement park fun.

With a bit more sunshine, as well as temperatures above 60 it's starting to look more and more like summer in Maine every day! But as anyone who's spent time in Vacationland between May and August knows, this weather might not last. To take advantage of it and make every day count, we recommend making the first gorgeous summer day a beach day! What better way to maximize your time than to hit two beaches in one day? In between all that beach-going, we've also provided some recommendations for food and treats. Load up the car and let's go!

You'll be starting your trip from beautiful Kennebunk, one of the most quintessential southern Maine towns.

First, fuel up with a coffee and savory breakfast sandwich on a bagel at Coffee Roasters of the Kennebunks.

This spot, owned by a local couple who live in the connecting home, is filled with the smell of roasting coffee beans and homey baking. It's also a great place to pick up handmade goods from local artisans. They're located at 163 Port Rd., Kennebunk, Maine / 207-967-8304

You can take your meal to go, but stick around and eat outside for a relaxing way to start the day.

Next, it's straight to Gooch's beach.

The beach here is wide and long, with tons of sand for castle building and relatively calm surf.

You can easily spend two to three blissful hours here, enjoying the incredible views (said to be the best of any beach in the area!) and the ocean breeze.

Parking here can be difficult and you'll need a permit from the town. Head to city hall to get one for about $20.

Once you've had your morning fill of laying in the sand, pack up and head back to your car to head straight for The Clam Shack, a beach institution since 1968.

Their address is simple "On the Bridge" in

Kennebunkport. You can call them on 207-967-3321.

Dig into a delicious lobster roll with chowder, or even a full whole lobster. But, don't get dessert...that's coming up.

Take some time here to enjoy the sunshine while enjoying your meal.

Next it's on to Martell's Ice Cream & Mini Golf in Saco.

Order from any of their perfect flavors and don't forget the sprinkles!

They're located at 757 Portland Rd., Saco / 207-283-1775

Enjoy your ice cream and then head to their mini golf course for some friendly competition.

The second beach of the day is famous Old Orchard Beach, the playground of the masses dating all the way back to 1829 when the first public house opened here.

The oldest hotel still standing on the beach today, The Ocean House Hotel & Motel, dates back to 1895.

After sunning your buns on the beach, head straight for The Pier for the famous "Pier Fries."

From here you'll set your sights on the final destination for the day: Palace Playland!

The amusement park in OOB has everything from games to rides and food you probably aren't hungry for but will eat anyway.

Things keep going into the night, and if you're lucky you'll be able to take in a summer concert.

As your day comes to a close, bellies and hearts full, remember that this is only the beginning of Maine's beautiful beaches.

Good thing you've got an entire summer ahead of you!
