You've got a full tank of gas, the leaves are changing and there's a warm chill in the air. That can only mean one thing! Autumn in Maine has arrived and there's just about no better time to explore new parts of the state. Before you head into the great unknown, consider visiting one of our favorite towns. It's not too far from some larger towns, but it offers a true middle-of-nowhere feel.
Make your way to Oxford County and take a trip down Route 26 and Route 118. This is where you'll find the town of Norway, Maine.
There's a lot to love about this area, including the fact that it's home to one of our favorite summertime lakes, Lake Pennesseewassee.
Incorporated in 1797, Norway was first home to many Revolutionary War soldiers. Over time the downtown area evolved and a thriving, fun community was created.
Throughout the year you'll find local events meant to bring those who live here together, but the welcoming nature means that even those from away will feel at home here.
Norway is an easy place to love. It's suitable for a weeklong stay, or just a day trip to visit the shops and restaurants that line the main street. What can you expect? How about one of Maine's best craft breweries, Norway Brewing Company. Get the fried chicken sandwich and you'll be back the next weekend for another one!

We also love stopping in Cafe Nomad for a sandwich and a drink. The menu is written every day on butcher paper and everything here is handmade.
Sit for a little while enjoying your meal and a book before heading off to explore the rest of the town.
Your next stop should be the totally unique Fiber and Vine, which features a selection of yarns plus hand chosen wines. Time your visit for when they have a tasting and you'll realize why people keep coming back.
