When the weather gets warm in Maine all we want to do is head outside. Trails are nice, but beach hangs are even better. The only problem? Most people have the same idea of a nice day out. To avoid the crowds that can make beach trips difficult, we've been trying to search for off-the-beaten-path locations. There are quite a few hidden beaches in Maine, but the one at this state park is lovely. Try it the next time you're in need of something new.

Birch Point Beach State Park is located in lovely Owls Head.

The beach here is nothing short of gorgeous.

Access is via a short hike from parking lot that weaves through a beautiful wooded area.

And, you can do the walk throughout the year if you want to see how things looks in a variety of conditions. Summer is our favorite, but can't go wrong with snow-covered views, either.

The route is just over a quarter-mile and the prize at the end is this view of the Penobscot Bay.

It's a short enough route to take your beach chairs if you plan on spending the day.

And, if you time your visit right there's a good chance you'll find the beach deserted.

The water is cold (it IS Maine, after all) but the views will more than make up for it.

This is a great place for calm and tranquility.

Especially if you manage to stick around for sunset.

Birch Point Beach State Park is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Memorial Day to Labor Day. Visitors can still access the beach during the off-season by parking near the gate without blocking it. Then, just walk in! The fee of $3 for Maine residents and $4 for non-residents can only be paid with cash or check. Address: 459 S Shore Drive, Owls Head, ME 04854.
