Just one visit to Maine and you'll see why people flock here throughout the year. They don't call Vacationland for no reason. From beaches to ski slopes to trails and forests, there's so much to explore that visiting year-round is almost a necessity. And when you do, we recommend heading to the Bethel area to stay in as many locally-run places as much as you can. 1. The Sudbury Inn, Bethel

If you're looking for a one-stop shop within super closer proximity to Sunday River, you can't get much better than this place. Located at Stop B of the Mountain Explorer Shuttle, you'll be just a few minutes from Sunday River. In addition to a great breakfast, they've got a wonderful pub located right downstairs. 2. The Briar Lea Inn, Bethel

Our favorite thing about this bed and breakfast is the British pub that's located right inside. With a menu that includes everything from fish 'n chips to bangers and mash to a proper Indian curry and wild-caught salmon you'll feel right at home if you love all things English. 3. The Chapman Inn, Bethel

This lovely inn has a great gourmet breakfast and lots of wonderful interior details. They're in the heart of Bethel's historic district making it incredibly convenient. They're located at: 2 Church St.,

4. The Inn at The Rostay, Bethel

We love this place for its close proximity to both skiing and hiking trails. It's also quite affordable for families if you want to enjoy a weekend of skiing without breaking the bank. 5. The Crocker Pond House, Bethel

6. Holidae House Bed & Breakfast, Bethel

The attention to detail at this beautiful inn can't be overlooked. Each room is well appointed with some of the most comfortable beds you'll ever sleep in! Plus, the food is top notch. Breakfasts that include things like cream cheese stuffed French toast with blueberries, strawberries and raspberries as well as made-from-scratch blueberry pancakes and apple cinnamon French toast make early mornings worth it! This pet-friendly spot has been delighting visitors and their furry friends for years. It's about 10 minutes from Sunday River, but the breakfast is what we really love. This house was built in the 19th century and has been restored with Victorian decor and antiques. There are lots of room types here - from standard to even family suites with lofts. 9. The Bethel Inn, Bethel

While not exactly a bed and breakfast we coudln't resist leaving this establishment off the list. It's just a few miles from Sunday River and it offers some of the most luxurious overnight stays in the area. The Millbrook Tavern inside offers live music on the weekends, so even if you're not there to ski you'll find plenty of ways to be entertained.
